your kindness with Eloise, our baby, who seems to

Na een rondreis van een maand in Sri Lanka verbleven
we de laatste drie dagen in deze prachtige villa.
Een geweldige afsluiting van onze reis. Alles was
fantastisch hier. De staf, die geen moeite teveel
was om het ons naar de zin te maken, het lekkere
eten, de bloemversiering op ons bed, kortom
geweldig! Beslist een plaats om nog eens terug te
komen.

During our stay from 17 to 27 January 2010 on board
Modarawattha, the staff was perfect and made our
stay wonderful. Wille driving the oven and prepare
us typical Sri Lankan food, a bit spicy, but with a
lot of different flavours, something savoury and
delicious, delightful. Our room boys and waiters
Udara and Darsika surprised us with all kinds of
fresh fruit juices and their art to make towels
become a nice item, and the sheet of the bed
transformed into a beautiful peacock or flowers. The
gardens making a real paradise with an ever blue
swimming pool, even the night guard looking after
our sleep until the morning awakening us with the
birds and the first light of a new day. In this
paradise we found a homely atmosphere with luxury
and comfort. For all that we express our feelings of
gratitude. We were spoilt, but our holidays here
were a great success.

What to
say? How is it possible to have to go to Galle to
explore, knowing what you are leaving behind? It is
so relaxing here, the lake, the birds, the people.
The silence of the house and the discretion of the
staff. This is an incredible place to stay. We are
ready to leave and hope that we can soon experience
this again (but next time staying in Galle too).

To everyone who wants to know about Modarawattha:
After a life of hardworking, we wanted a long stay
at a nice place to have time for ourselves to read,
swim, walk and just relax. We chose Modarawattha and
stayed for four weeks. This is a small piece of
Paradise, far away from the hectic way of life. We
loved especially the mornings and evenings with a
beautiful view over the lake with fishing people and
fireflies over the lawns. Don't forget the beautiful
garden with singing birds and all lights at night.
Last but not least, we want to make a compliment to
the staff who made us feel like the last resident of
this country or the King! Always thinking of
everything that could please us. We will never
forget.

After a nine day round trip through Sri Lanka we
came to rest here in Modarawattha, not unknown to us
but the first time for a real holiday. What a lovely
spot! Peaceful, wonderful garden, the occasional
monkey in the tree, the train that rattles over the
bridge, the beautiful view and last but no least the
kind staff that looked after us so well. Wille,
Fazal, Udara, Darshika, Wasantha all helped to make
this a wonderful stay. Fazal, the King of Curry,
thank you for all the recipies, Wasantha, thank you
for the Rampe plant and the leaves and the coconut
milk, Wille thank you for the Maldive fish flakes
and making sure everything ran smoothly, Udara,
thank you for showing me how to fold a Lotus napkin
and for serving us at the table, Dharshika thank you
for the evening bees and serving us so ably too at
the table and of course Pantis, thank you for
keeping the garden so tidy and beautiful and smiling
your kind smile.

It was a
pleasure to be here. We enjoyed everything. The
weather 'with the rain in the afternoon', the
swimming pool to relax after six days travelling in
Sri Lanka, the birds, so many and beautiful, while
we were having breakfast. The food, especially the
birthday dinner for Martin, that was a surprise! and
all the lovely people who gave us the feeling that
we were welcome. Thank you for the beautiful bed,
everyday something different!)

2009. We have been genuinely impressed by the
condition of the professionalism and informality
that we experienced during our stay. Both the
quality of meals and the service was beyond our
expectations. Apart from a view proper reading
lights, our stay was perfect!

Day trip around Galle with a classic Mini Moke from
1957
 We were guests at the Modarawattha Villa when we
were introduced by Mr.Wille, the manager to driver/guide
Mervin and his classic car. He just bought the car
with the intention to drive around tourists and show
them his country. We were the first clients he took
for a day trip to Galle and surroundings. In this
car no climate control but just a fresh wind like in
a convertible, to protect you from sunburn the roof
stays on.
I
think the maximum speed is 50 miles an hour, so
relax and don't hurry. Maybe not the car for the
highway at home but here it's wonderful. Driver/guide
Mervin ("Mo" for his friends) is a nice man to be
around; good manners and a fine sense of humor. He
is licensed and is an expert guide for top hotels in
Sri Lanka.
We had a wonderful day because Mo knows everything
about the history and culture of his country and
told us a lot of things we did not know. We
recommend Mo and his car to anyone who wants to see
Sri Lanka in a different way.

a amazing place to be, nice and relaxing. The view
and the pool were very nice. We were here for two
days, but I wished it would be more. I want to thank
the boys for the fishing! The meals were very nice
and it was quite an experience to have this place

Arriving in the dark after a long day, this place
had a big 'WoW' factor from the moment the gates
opened. Putting the bags in the room and having the
staff cooking a wonderful meal to enjoy at the
lakeside enhanced this factor. Waking up to the
beautiful view makes it all one fact: this place is
a bit of paradise! What a privileged people we are
to be able to experience all this. This name, Villa
Modarawattha, will be imprinted in our memories
forever. Also because we were fortunate to seal our

In the evening a lot
of fishermenn are coming with their lamps to catch
the fish. Its difficult to see how they manage it,
but it is really hard work. Our boys liked the
swimming pool and the lake to go in. Even they
climbed in the trees like monkeys. The hospitality
of the staff was great. Everything was possible.

Our company of nine
has been accommodated in a perfect way. Really a
place to relax at least for the guests while the
staff members keep on smiling while being asked
plenty of questions. Exceptional hospitality!
Villa and grounds are beautiful and well maintained.
Without been isolated from the outside world, it is
a paradise. The late afternoon traffic of ringnecked
parakeets to the east and the egrets to the west
towards their respective sleeping quarters made
exciting viewing.

We stayed here for two nights. It is a beautiful
place here. You can hear the birds sing. It's a
total difference with everything we've seen in Sri
Lanka. You can see beautiful nature here. The Villa
is comfortable and the staff is/was very kind and
friendly, what made us feel comfortable and home!
The quietness and the rest... we enjoyed it! And
also the mornings when you wake up, you hear the
birds, see the squirrels and if you're lucky you can
see many monkeys.
The food that the Chef has made was magnificient! We
have eaten Sri Lankan food, it was of excellent
quality!
Staff, we want to thank you for two wonderful days
at this beautiful place. Till next year!

Behind the street you can't see that it is a
